KAVAVAOW
MANNOMEE: SPECIAL RECEPTION
Sunday, July 19, 1—3:30 p.m.
Free
Cape Dorset artist Kavavaow
Mannomee is at the forefront of a new generation of
Inuit drawers and printmakers who are radically reshaping traditional
northern graphic art. A longtime employee of the community’s
renowned printmaking studio, Mannomee has emerged in recent
years as an artist with a whimsical and compellingly contemporary
vision. His carefully
crafted images are rendered in a delicate drawing style, and
deal with subjects as diverse as the impact of alcohol abuse,
northern mythology, and the effects of climate change.
In a
special informal reception, Mannomee will answer questions
about his work and drawing's role in this remote
northern community.
