BURNABY
ART GALLERY
DRAWINGS FROM THE COLLECTION:
B.C. BINNING
June 2 — September 13
Bertram Charles
Binning was a leading figure in British Columbia's
postwar modernist era. His art spans nearly four decades,
with the majority of his drawings, paintings and sculptures
reflecting a nautical theme and a sense of time and place.
Binning's drawings often reflect a keen sense of space and
line - attributes which propelled him to local and national
success throughout the 1940s and 1950s. His draftsmanship,
while deceptively simple and light, demonstrates adept skill
and knowledge of his subjects. The Burnaby Art Gallery's
exhibition, BC Binning, represents
a small collection of the Gallery's holdings, many of which
were donated to the gallery in 2008 by the estate of Jessie
Binning.
