Guidelines and Rules
Please read the follow terms and conditions and indicate
your agreement before submitting your entry
Entrant Qualifications
- The competition is open to Canadian artists
of professional standing aged 18 or older. For the purposes
of this competition, “Canadian” shall,
in every instance, be interpreted to mean a Canadian citizen
or permanent resident (landed immigrant) of Canada.
- Entrants should have completed basic training at an art
school or equivalent (e.g. experience working in a studio
and/or with peers in an exhibition context).
- Entrants should have an exhibition record demonstrating
peer recognition.
- Directors of the Vancouver Drawing Festival Society and
members of the Jury are not eligible.
Artwork Qualifications
- There is no
limitation on style and technique. However, the exhibition
space is a public gallery, with the result that safety
and health restrictions must be taken into consideration.
Work of a very fragile nature will not be considered. As
the walls are temporary, height and weight restrictions may
apply.
- Dimensions of each artwork must not exceed 36 inches by
56 inches.
- All works submitted for consideration must be available
for up to two months including the exhibition period.
- Entrants may submit up to three images for consideration.
(Only one image per finalist will be selected.)
- Drawings must be finished at the time that the image is
taken and submitted to the competition. Works that have been
subsequently changed will not be accepted into the final
exhibition.
- Digital resolution of submitted
images should not exceed 72 dpi in a jpeg or gif format,
at a size no larger than 6 x 6 inches. File sizes should
not exceed 500KB. File names should be the same as the
title.
Requirements of Finalists
- Artists whose work has been selected for inclusion in the
exhibition should be prepared to provide a high-resolution
quality digital image of the selected artwork at a file size
of 300 dpi.
- Drawings selected for inclusion in the exhibition must
be delivered to the Vancouver exhibition office by June 30.
(Address will be provided upon notification of selection.)
All shipping charges relating to delivery and return of the
drawings are the responsibility of the artists. Return
shipping must be prepaid unless the drawing is to be picked
up in person.
- The selected artwork must be appropriately packaged for
transport. We suggest shipping the drawings in a double strength
cardboard tube. Shipping materials will be re-used for return
shipment. If packing materials are not useable for return
shipping, the artist will be charged for the materials required.
- The exhibition organizers will take all due care with the
drawings received but will not be responsible for any loss
or damage to artworks whatsoever, however caused. Entrants
are responsible for maintaining their own insurance coverage.
- Entrants shall allow the exhibition organizers to photograph
the works and to reproduce them by print or electronic means
for the purposes of documentation and advertising the competition,
including subsequent catalogues, brochures and posters.
- Entrants
authorize the exhibition organizers to frame their drawings
for exhibition purposes using approved archival methods and
materials.
Please note that entrants are required
to pay the submission fee of $35 using PayPal or by sending
a cheque to the Drawn office.
Entries that are not accompanied by payment will not be considered
for the exhibition. Entrants may not submit more than once.
Drawn cannot be held responsible for any
difficulties of a technical nature that may prevent entrants
from successfully completing their online submission.
